The weather is so beautiful here, warm and sunny all the time, it is hard to believe that it is almost Christmas time. Also the world is supposed to end this Friday and all the Mayan ruins in the Yucatan and Belize are having end-of-the-world celebrations and concerts and various Mayan temples and sites. Playa Del carmen and Tulum are several other places that here in Mexico are also having big parties. A lot of hippies from America and around the world are here or on their way here to take part. I will most likely sit on the beach and watch the world come to an end that way. Cruise business is picking up and more and more tourists are coming here and leaving amazed at Mahahual and Costa Maya’s beaches and natural splendor. There will be two ships on Christmas Day, so I will be working. It should be fun to see what kind of people show up here on Christmas Day. The Mahahualeans, the local Ex-Pat woman’s group, held the 6th annual Christmas Party for the children of Mahahual on Sunday and almost 600 children showed up. The children got drinks, snacks, cookies, toys, presents, and a free picture with Santa. Santa showed up in a golf cart and the children went crazy and almost mobbed him. There was Christmas music and movies, popcorn, and just about anything a kid would want. The local woman’s group here, made up of American, Canadian, Mexican, and European woman, do a lot of good work here and made Christmas special for a lot of needy kids here. Here is not like the USA, people don’t really get into the spirit until about a week before Christmas and it is not as commercial and more laid back. There is a Christmas tree in the lobby where I live though, that is pretty neat. I have already had a great Christmas so far, some classmates and some friends mailed me some things that I really needed and it has made my Holiday season special already. I have met a lot of great people lately down here that are in town for the holidays. I have become friends with a Canadian couple Dave and Peggy Gauci who are quite interesting and a woman from Minnesota, Marnie. I am meeting more and more people everyday as the “Snow Birds” start to arrive. I am putting in a picture from the Children’s Christmas party, to show Santa for everyone.
